My name is Albert Chan and I’m a software developer based in Hong Kong.
I like writing software and I also like looking at beautiful things. I’m a bit of a design geek so that’s why I’ve always loved doing frontend development work. And that’s what I did for almost ten years, coding at some of the biggest start-ups in Hong Kong. I even did a stint at an investment bank designing and developing trading UIs.
Prior to working in tech, I was a stocks and futures trader. I spent six years going down a rabbit hole in developing my own trading system, which I still use to this day. Back then, I mainly traded futures contracts on the CME and HKEX, namely the ES, 6E, 6J, and HSIF.
I was fortunate to be exposed to trading early in my career as it gave me an evergreen skill I can always fall back on. I mean, writing software for companies is cool and all, but you’re always building someone else’s castle.
Coding still gives me a dopamine kick, mainly when I write fun little projects for myself. I particularly like building things that help me to learn new things. For example, I built a simple website that helps me to learn the Thai alphabet.
I speak Cantonese and English.
